Congratulations! You have selected the perfect window blind, measured the window and want to have your blind fitted immediately. The finishing touch is almost complete. But do you know how to fit blinds? What comes next? Easy. Drill the holes and fitting the blind is as easy as snapping a kit together! Sorry, but sometimes it is not as easy as that! Unfortunately window blind fitting is usually more complicated than this, but don’t be discouraged by some minor complications.
Tools will be needed to fit your blind. Pencil, steel tape measure and screwdriver will be the minimum of hand tools required. Electric drills are a must have item for fitting into anything other than a wooden window frame. Concrete or steel window lintels can be challenging but are within the capability of most DIY blind fitters. A spirit level may be necessary especially when fitting a blind on a wall outside a window recess. And of course step ladders when working at height over a sink or stairs.
Drilling the fixing holes tends to be the most difficult part of fitting the blind. After measuring and buying the blind, the first thing we must do is drill some holes to attach the blind fitting brackets which will attach the window blind to a window frame, recess or wall. We may have to drill into wood, plasterboard, metal, concrete window lintels, steel window lintels, brick or plaster. (I can’t think of any other materials). It is obviously easier to fit a bracket to a wooden frame rather than a concrete or metal window lintel.
